
This spring sees Redningsselskapet a new skate into the rescue of Norway's largest lake. Mutual Foundation contributed significant funds to the vessel. This Rescue boat replaces the old RS "Rauna" which is now scrapped. The new vessel can be on scene faster when assistance is required, so that all who use the lake will be able to feel even safer.
The boat will be staffed by rescue personnel of the Sea Rescue Corps which is based on volunteers. Their main task is to save lives and salvage valueables, and engage in preventive activities. Sea Rescue Corps in Gjovik have been operational for years, and consists of about 20 well-qualified volunteers who are in a duty.
Those working with partners including police, ambulance, fire brigade and Red Cross and participate in major exercises with the Civil Defence. In addition, Sea rescue corps with a variety of activities in which they convey sea sense to children and young people in Mjøs region.
The Mutual Foundation now has given the largest gift award to the Sea Rescue Corp. - We had a thorough evaluation by our officers and our board before a final decision was taken. Through our gift we wish to show that the rescue work of the volunteers are important and necessary to promote health and safety of everyone traveling on the lake, says CEO Treat Dehler in Mutual Foundation.
The rescue company is very greatful that Mutual Foundation supports the project by 2.7 million Kroner. General Øyvind Stene is very grateful that the Foundation contributes to the renewal of the fleet so that even more lives could be saved. At the same time he adds that it is also possible for others to contribute to the lake-boat, still missing a little over one million for full funding.
The new boat is currently under construction at Marine Alutech OY in Finland, and is 10.5 meters long, fiberglass sandwich construction. It comes with twin outboard motor 2x300 horsepower and speed is estimated at 35 knots. The vessel will be delivered in spring 2012, and is inserted into the rescue at the start of the season this year.
